So, I discovered tonight that I am not a very good spontaneous public speaker when it comes to talking about really important stuff. Like there is this girl that a friend and I got to minister to this past friday and it was totally cool to see all the different ways that God went ahead of us and prepared the way, but do you think that's what I conveyed when speaking? I don't think so. I didn't quite know what to say and what was important and what was appropriate. I kept saying stupid things like "totally cool" and "way awesome" and "dude" and "man" and other crappy slang stuff. grrr.
What I should have said occurred to me instantly....after I was done talking. I should have uttered something along these lines.....
I met a young mother of two who just gave birth to a third child, a healthy baby boy named Payton. She is a single mom and could really use some help in a few different areas including baby clothes, diapers, formula, blankets, friendship, and consistancy. She doesn't have a big support system in her life and this is a real opportunity to for us to reach out with the love of Christ to a family in our community. If anyone is interested in being involved in that somehow, please contact me or JoJo.
Well, this will be my amended speech. Thank goodness God still chooses to love and use me even when I am stupid. ;) By the way, if you do want to help....let me know
Love and blessings, Laura jean

Laura, I'm getting ready to go incommunicado for a while, and this comment has nothing to do with this post (though it is a good one), but since you don't show an email on your blog, I have no other way to contact you, so this will have to be public.
I've read through several of your previous posts and it seems to me that your Christian life is very genuine. I hope that someday I will get to meet you. Your comments on Dallas' blog have also been insightful and honest. You are a young woman who already has understood what ministry in the Body of Christ is, and you haven't been afraid to do it.
I have four sons. The oldest, Jacob, is 32 years old. He is a lover of the Word of God and is very into the Prophets of Israel. He graduated with an M. Div. from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Theological School in Boston, MA.
Jacob has a heart for ministry, especially with the youth, and he is struggling with a lot of things right now in our church. He doesn't have a blog, but he does have a website, sorta. You can get to it through a link in the side panel of my blog, if you'd like to. I try to connect young ministry-minded people together, somehow, because you all need each other. Jacob works for the Greek Church on their website (also linked at my blog), but he lives here in Portland.
I also noticed an internet friend of mine, Symeon, has left you a comment. He is the same age as Jacob, and is now heading for Orthodox seminary, but he lives in Appalachia. He is also very ministry-minded and a gifted writer. His background is also evangelical; he pastored a church already, and someday he will also be an Orthodox presbyter (as will Jacob, God willing). People like you should get to know one another, for friendship in the Lord and mutual encouragement.
I thank the Lord for you, Laura, for my prayer partner Brock, for my son Jacob (as well as my other sons, of course!), and for Symeon my newest friend. I thank Him that you all exist, and that He is forming you all into pillars of His holy Church, and that I have the privilege of knowing you, at least a little.
Axia, adelphí mou agapití! (Worthy, my dear sister!) Axia!

Laura,
I'd love to help. I've got some boy baby clothes in great shape that I've been waiting to give away for such a time as this!
